MUMBAI, 06 MARCH 2010: This year’s women achievers honoured by IMC’s Ladies Wing were presented with the ASMI – WOMAN OF SPIRIT AWARDS, in recognition of their achievements. The awards were presented to the women achievers at the International Woman’s Day Conclave titled IMPACT 2010, which was held by IMC in the city today. The conclave took off with a lamp lighting ceremony by Neha Dhupia, noted Bollywood actor and Brand Ambassador of the Gitanjali Group. The event and the awards were sponsored by Asmi, leading jewellery brand of India. The show also featured a fashion show hosted by Asmi, featuring Neeta Lulla’s creation and in keeping with the theme it showcased “Power Dressing through the Years.”

ASMI – WOMAN OF SPIRIT AWARDEES were were Agatha Sangma (Youngest woman MP), Dr Indu Shahani, Sheriff of Mumbai, Swati Piramal, (First woman president of ASSOCHAM), Dr Shyama Chona, (Educationist), Rukma Bai (Folk Artist), Reeina Gupta (Entrepreneur), Mary Kom, (First Indian Woman Boxer) and Saina Nehwal (World Junior Badminton Champion)  Owmen  Every year, the Ladies’ Wing of the Indian Merchants’ Chamber holds International Women’s Day to coincide with the worldwide movement for women’s empowerment.

The IMPACT 2010 conclave had an insightful discussion featuring speakers of repute such as Sudha Murthy, trustee, Infosys Foundation, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon Ltd and the engaging TV personality, Vijay Amritraj.  Other speakers were Paul Folmsbee, US Consul General  and D. Sivanandan, Police Commissioner, Mumbai.
